Gerry has asked that I publish this information about the 2018 poppy appeal.
In the 1980s Chris Rea wrote the song Windy Town about my home town of Middlesbrough. At the moment it feels like the title of the song is suitable for Almerimar. No wonder the world champion windsurfer comes from here.
This autumn has been a pretty poor one here for weather. It feels like if it has not been raining it has been windy.
We were due to play golf with friends today and have decided to cancel due to the windy weather.
I really hope we get rid of this wet and windy weather soon.
I have only just spotted that San Javier airport in Murcia is closing in January 2019. This has been talked about and written about for a number of years. However it is now happening in a couple of months time.
The replacement airport opening in January 2019 is Corvera. Corvera is closer to Almerimar than San Javier. Corvera is accessible in less than 2 1/2 hours according to Google maps. The route without toll roads is just under 2 /12 hours with dual carriageway all the way. Or you can use toll roads and get there even quicker - probably around 2 hours to 2 hours 15 minutes.
Although it is a little further away than Málaga it is quite a bit closer than San Javier.
I understand that Jet2 and Ryanair are among the airlines that are planning to use the new airport when it opens in January.
I wonder who will be the first Almerimar resident to use Corvera airport.
This has been on my to do list for a while. Now that things are a bit quieter I have had a chance to find out some details.
The article here was published just over a month ago on the Almeria 360 site. It has some details of the changes to the Copo motorway junction that are scheduled to take place next year.
A separate bridge over the motorway is to be created alongside the current one. It will allow for 2 lanes of traffic in both directions, a bike path and a pedestrian walkway. Also cars turning right when leaving the motorway will get their own separate lane on the slip road. Rather than having to go up to the roundabout.
I guess there is going to be some disruption during the building work. However it should improve things in the longer term.

UPDATED 14:35 22/11/18 - I have been told that the IKEA may be to the left of the Repsol garage rather than the right. Also, the whole area is supposed to become another shopping centre.
The other day I was talking to someone about the IKEA shop that is due to open in Almería towards the end of 2019. Neither of us knew for certain where it was going to be located. So I have had a poke around on the internet. Apparently it is going to be at the top of Calle Belén. Near a roundabout with a Repsol garage. It looks like this is very close to the 443km turn off from the motorway. You can see my guess of the approximate location on the map above (that I lifted from Google maps).
Given the recent weather I thought I would share a link to my preferred site for looking at Almerimar rain radar. I have added a link to it on the main menu.
As you can see from the story here the greens on the Master 3 (Classic) course at Almerimar were renewed around the end of June 2018. As mentioned here the holes re-opened for play towards the end of September 2018.
They have now been in play for almost 2 months so I thought it might be worth writing something about them.
