The mayor of Tourism has shown "your satisfaction with this fact, as it is a step towards quality and represents the fruit of the work we have been doing in the last seven years to make El Ejido a first class destination"
Luisa Barranco has been commissioned to collect this recognition in the framework of the XX International Congress and Exhibition of Beaches, held these days in the Mallorcan municipality of Alcudia
It is the fourth year that the City Council is present in this important forum, whose objective is to offer a global technical vision of the aspects related to the integral management of the beaches
El Ejido has managed to get back with the second flag of ECOPLAYAS, awarded by the Technical Association for Waste Management, Urban Cleaning and Environment (ATEGRUS). On this occasion, it has been for Balerma beach, a certification that comes to join the one obtained last year for the Poniente de Almerimar and that has also been renewed in this edition.
The Councilor for Tourism, Luisa Barranco, has been commissioned to collect them personally in the framework of the XX International Congress and Exhibition of Beaches that is taking place these days in the Mallorcan municipality of Alcúdia. Barranco has shown "his satisfaction with this fact, as it is a step towards quality and represents the fruit of the work we have been doing in the last seven years to make El Ejido a first class destination." Barranco recalled, in this line, that "it is an important distinction that rewards excellence in services, equipment and correct environmental management."
The local manager remarked that "this is granted once a strict evaluation system has been met to those municipalities and supramunicipal entities that are distinguished by the quality of their beaches from the environmental, touristic and sustainability point of view with the objective to spread their efforts, innovations and achievements, focusing on the excellence, equipment and maintenance of the great asset that they constitute ".
Similarly, Barranco explained that "this year, we have submitted the Balerma beach application, highlighting in the dossier presented the technical solution adopted to the problem of deterioration suffered by the showers in this stretch of coastline, providing a unique solution, promoted by engineering at the service of the tourism sector to ensure the sustainability and quality of the equipment and services available on beaches and that consisted in the replacement in the area most affected by storms of a total of 11 showers installed in stainless steel, embedded in the walk wall ".
The mayor stressed that the flag of ECOPLAYAS comes to "ratify the extraordinary conditions with which our coast counts, since, year after year, we gain in services, means and infrastructures so that they continue to be a reference, inside and outside of our province, and an important asset increasingly demanded by thousands of tourists and visitors who, together with the rest of possibilities and resources, make us a destination of reference ".
To be able to access this award, both stretches of coastline, both the West and the Balerma, have had to meet a series of requirements that have been evaluated by ATEGRUS from the point of view of engineering and tourism. In this way, aspects such as being in possession of several certifications, the 'Q of Quality' and Blue Flag have been taken into account; the quality of the water and the sand; the cleanliness of the beach and its frequency; maintenance and regeneration, landscaping design, functionality, equipment and services; rescue and life saving, eco-innovation and uniqueness of the solutions and new functions and added values of the beach for the population.
It is the fourth year that the City Council is present this great event, whose objective is to offer a global technical vision of the aspects related to the integral management of the beaches. Also, the mayor has taken the opportunity to be part of the papers scheduled during the Congress that have dealt with topics as diverse as the management and cleaning of beaches, climate change, erosion of sand and dunes, the use of algae, protected coastal areas, the control of water and sand, the sustainable development of the coast or the application of the Law of Coasts, among many other issues. This event has been completed with an exhibition in which the main companies of the sector have shown their products and achievements carried out in the world of beaches.
