This is the rolling coronavirus story for Wednesday 9 September 2020.
Coronavirus tests for teachers in Andalucía
The Olive Press now makes you log in to see stories. I think it is a move towards installing a paywall.
The story in the link above states that 135 teachers out of 87,911 in Andalucía have tested positive for coronavirus. This is around 0.1%.
These were serology tests that show whether someone has had the virus. Anyone who got a positive with this test was then given a PCR test. To see whether they have the active virus now.
10 million euros more for the Poniente hospital - around half of it to cover coronavirus related costs
The Poniente Hospital will receive 5 million to be expanded
A similar amount will be for material to face the coronavirus pandemic
The Governing Council of the Junta de Andalucía approved in its meeting this Tuesday an important economic injection for the Hospital de Poniente, located in the Almeria town of El Ejido.
This is an investment of more than 10 million euros, which will be allocated to two items fundamentally, as transferred from the Executive chaired by Juanma Moreno: works for the expansion of the health center and provision of the necessary material to deal with cases of contagion of coronavirus in full pandemic.
In addition, the investments are part of a global plan for the whole of Andalusia announced last week by the Chairman of the Board and which has been quantified at 117 million euros.
Moreno made the announcement on a visit to the works of the Military Hospital in Seville.
It is expected that in the coming days the Minister of Health and Families, Jesús Aguirre, will travel to Almería to give more details of that plan. Aguirre has already appeared in provinces such as Córdoba.
Until yesterday's Governing Council, in which the Almeria counselor Carmen Crespo was present, a proposal was raised in accordance with the resolution of the managing director of the Public Health Business Agency Hospital de Poniente de Almería by which the hiring is agreed through emergency processing of the acquisition of the supply of drugs and material goods, equipment and provision of services destined for the Agency's health centers, for the care and prevention of the Covid-19 pandemic.
When the Council was held, as reported by the Board in a statement past noon yesterday, the green light was given to "the emergency declaration for the extraordinary expenditure for the acquisition of supplies of drugs and material goods, equipment and provision of services with destination to the health centers of the Public Agency of the Hospital de Poniente, in Almería, for a total amount of 10,365,607 euros ”.
The item is divided into a chapter for drugs, consumables and services, endowed with almost 4.8 million euros, which has allowed the purchase of PCR kits and laboratory consumables and protection materials, and to cover extraordinary expenses in cleaning, ambulances or transport of samples.
The other item, of more than 5.5 million euros, is intended for investment in infrastructure.

Daily stats from the La Voz de Almería site - 3 deaths and 87 new cases
Three other elderly people died of coronavirus in one day with 87 new positives
166 people are discharged and 5 enter are hospitalized, none in the ICU, in Almería
The coronavirus returns to claim lives in Almería, again among the largest in the province. And it leaves 87 more infected, a notable decrease compared to the previous days (193 on Tuesday and 125 on Monday), five hospitalized (none in the ICU) and another 'high' in those recovered: 166 people have received the epidemiological discharge.
The most recent update of the data communicated daily by the Board's Department of Health and Families speaks of three new deaths in the last 24 hours. All three in nursing homes. One of them, in El Manantial de Terque, was communicated this Tuesday by the mayor of this town although it was officially notified today. Here there are still 43 confirmed cases (33 residents and 10 workers). And the other two deaths are located in the El Zapillo nursing home, in the capital, where the outbreak detected on August 13 has already reached 119 confirmed positives: 78 residents and 41 workers.
According to the data available at the Institute of Statistics and Cartography, these three deaths correspond to the following profiles: a man, between 80 and 84 years of age, and two women, one from the group between 85 and 89 years and the other between 95 to 99.
Thus, Almería reaches the figure of 92 deaths since the outbreak of the health crisis. There are already, therefore, eleven consecutive days with deaths in the province due to covid-19.
If the number of infections detected through PCR drops sharply (today's 87 positives represent almost half of yesterday's 193), the rate of hospital admissions due to Covid-19 also continues to decrease.
This Wednesday 5 people have had to be admitted, none of them in the ICU. In this way, 88 patients are still admitted to Almería, 16 of them in the ICU, the same as yesterday.
So far, 617 people from Almería have been admitted at some point due to the disease, of which 85 have undergone Intensive Care.
In Andalusia as a whole, this is the situation caused by the virus: in Cádiz there are 110 hospitalizations, of which 19 in ICU; in Córdoba, 87 hospitalizations, of which 13 in ICU; in Granada, 80 hospitalizations, of which 12 in ICU; Huelva has 5 hospitalizations, of which 1 in the ICU; in Jaén there are 29 hospitalizations, of which 9 in the ICU ;, in Malaga there are 228 hospitalizations, of which 32 in the ICU; and in Seville there are currently 138 people admitted for the coronavirus, of which 16 in ICU.
As for those recovered, the 166 of this Wednesday leave 2,736 people who have defeated the covid-19 in Almería.
After the new positives, there are 5,936 diagnosed with coronavirus through PCR, 6,214 adding the serological tests.
In Andalusia, this Wednesday there were 781 new infected, with Granada (175), Seville (150), Malaga (135) and Cádiz (109) above Almería. Below are Córdoba (51), Jaén (42) and Huelva (32).
The data included in this news is extracted from the daily report sent by the Ministry of Health and Families of the Junta de Andalucía.
