This is the rolling coronavirus story for Monday 21 September 2020.
The Junta de Andalucía says that the Poniente health region is a high risk coronavirus area (with almost 4 times the cases needed to reach the high risk category) - no fireworks in Dalías this year
The Board warns: "The epidemiological situation in the West is high risk"
The incidence of the coronavirus in the region leaves Dalías without its traditional celebrations
The Junta de Andalucía is clear about it, the advance of the coronavirus pandemic in the Poniente health district is truly worrying. This has been made known in a letter sent to the Dalías City Council and in which Salud announces its decision not to celebrate the traditional 'traca' of fireworks in the Dalian municipality on the occasion of the Cristo de la Luz.
"The accumulated contagion rate considered as a high risk of transmission is almost four times exceeded." With this phrase, the Ministry of Health and Families has left the municipality of Dalías without its traditional festivities, considering them "very high risk", which makes it clear that the epidemiological situation in the easternmost region of the province of Almería keeps alert the authorities, as they have seen that among its more than 265,000 inhabitants, almost 3,500 positives have been reported at the moment.
Thus, in the last week there have been 286 infections detected by PCR, 762 if the count has been made for 14 days. In addition, currently active cases, that is, patients who are still sick with covid-19, are at least 1,735.
For its part, in the municipality of Dalías, among its just over 4,000 inhabitants, 37 positives have been detected since March, all of them by PCR, one in the last week and two since 14 days ago. Low figures but which, added to those of the rest of the region, have led the Junta de Andalucía to issue the report with which the Sub-delegation of the Government of Spain in Almería has put on the table its arguments for the Christ de la Luz this year do not count on fireworks or open bars and pubs.
The decision has not sat well in the municipality of Dalías, where the mayor raised his voice this Saturday to denounce: "We have asked for security for our neighbors and what they have done is to exceed the control and surveillance of our streets and causing the closure of some bars and pubs. We were offered protection, not persecution, to our neighbors ", explains the councilor, Francisco Giménez.
The 7 and 14 day figures by municipality from Almería 360
As usual, see the tables in the Spanish article.
Tables and graphs of the Almería 360 week day data
Today saw the first increase in the 7 day average daily number of cases figure for El Ejido since a little over a week ago. The 14 day average figure for cases in El Ejido is lower today. After a blip upwards last Friday.
Although these downward trends in the number of cases in the El Ejido area is some good news. It should be noted that in terms of cases per 100,000 people the figures still show the area as being HIGH RISK. As mentioned in the article above about the cancellation of events in Dalías last weekend.
Latest figures for the last 24 hours - 90 more positives - 1 more death
Almería does not exceed a hundred positives but adds one more death
There are already 111 people with coronavirus who have died since the start of the pandemic
This Monday, September 21, the province maintains the trend of last weekend. Almería does not exceed one hundred cases of coronavirus on this day, a figure that has been widely exceeding almost daily for weeks.
According to data consulted on the website of the Andalusian Institute of Statistics and Cartography (IECA), in the last hours in the province 90 new positives have been registered by Covid-19. Figures that, unfortunately, include a new death. There are already 111 people with coronavirus who have died since the start of the pandemic in March.
The daily report published by the Andalusian Regional Government Health Department details that the current number of people hospitalized in the province is 45 (four of them have been admitted in the last hours) and 13 are in the Intensive Care Unit (UCI), as well as four more from Almeria have been cured.
Throughout the community
This Monday, Andalusia recorded 812 new cases confirmed by PCR, 69 more than this Sunday but far from the 1,480 notified last Saturday, when the second highest daily rise in the pandemic was reached in the community.
Testing in care homes across Andalucía - 5th round of testing underway
This is the fifth round of tests carried out in residences throughout Andalusia
The Ministry of Health and Families begins to apply rapid antigen tests in homes for the elderly and disability throughout Andalusia. Likewise, the Minister of Health and Families, Jesús Aguirre, has announced this new measure “which will constitute a fundamental tool to contain the spread of the virus thanks to its high level of effectiveness and speed since it allows detecting a virus protein at the current moment and its results are obtained in just 15 minutes ”.
Accompanied by the general director of Social and Health Care, José Repiso, the counselor stressed that "the vocation of the Ministry is to continue prioritizing residences for the elderly and disabled as a space of vulnerability."
Counselor Jesús Aguirre has added that “this type of test will allow a systematic screening in the population that is proving to be more fragile against the virus, for this reason we maintain our commitment to continue carrying out antigen tests with a frequency that allows us know the situation of the social health centers ”.
Random in residents of each center
Specifically, systematic tests will be carried out on workers in each center who have not had a Covid-19 infection in the previous 6 months; In the event of any positive, the test will be performed on all residents. Independently, a random screening of residents of each center who have not had the disease in the last 6 months will also be carried out. Likewise, tests will be carried out on the income and return of users and workers 48 hours prior to their entry.
Rapid antigen tests allow the substitution of PCR tests for their similar guarantee in the diagnostic determination of COVID-19. The sample is obtained through a swab inserted through the nose with the advantage that it does not require reading instruments, so it can be performed outside the laboratory. Andalusia has a stock of one million of these tests.
