Almerimar

Jacqui really fancied a game of golf today. We knew that Sharon was planning to drag Alan out into the garden to do some work so we decided to just book a time for ourselves. The first time Jacqui could get was 13:30 so we knew that the round would probably slow.

The gods must have been smiling down on us as when we turned up at the 1st tee we met Richard and Ingrid who were about to tee off. We ended up with a slow round of golf but the compensation was that we had some great company. We really enjoyed our time on the course and all 4 of us played some good golf. All in all it was a really pleasant Sunday afternoon.

Proyecto Hombres - Alboran - 3 Nov 12

The Friday Golf Society received the poster above via Facebook. As you can see there is a charity golf competition taking place at Alboran on 3 November 2012.

We understand that the Classic course is going to open soon. Perhaps even later this week.

There are supposed to be a lot of people booked on the golf course between mid October until end November so the Classic course will probably be used to relieve some of the pressure for tee times.

Green 7, Almerimar, 26 Sept 12

Green 6, Almerimar, 26 Sept 12

As you can see from these photos from our terrace, they are tining, top dressing and watering the greens at the moment. These are green 7 being worked on and green 6 being watered. The work should be finished tomorrow all being well. After that it will probably just be a case of waiting for the greens to get back to normal.

A little different from the following photo of fairway number 7 in 2006 that Brian Thomas gave us for Memorias de Almerimar.

Jim won the first FGS Sunday competition of the winter season. Well done Mr Jock.

See the FGS site for details.

I wonder what will happen to the price of rounds at all our courses in the province when the increase in IVA  (VAT) from 8% to 21% come into effect from 1 September 2012?

See the article here on the Typically Spanish site.

Well done to all of the winners of the BSM competition today. You can see the full results here. Including an incredible score of 52 points from Alvaro Nuñez Muro who won the high handicap category.

Jacqui and I did not play that well today. We both stuggled when the ball went off the fairway into the rough. It was pretty long quite close to some fairways and around some of the bunkers.

However we did mark the cards of the winners in the first and second categories, Jesus Martin Garcia (41 pts) and Jose Roman Bonilla Rubio (39 pts).

I think that the winners will all be receiving a clicgear trolley each at the prize giving dinner on the roof at the clubhouse this evening.

Lets hope it is not too windy up there as it would be a shame if the weather were to spoil the evening.

At least we still have a chance in the sorteo.....

We were up early to take part in the Virgen de Agosto golf competition today in Almerimar. The rocket went off at around 8:50 and we finished at around 2pm so it was a slow medal round.

It started off coolish with very wet fairways. Then the sun came out and we were boiling. Later in the round the floosie of the fret was doing her bit again and the course was covered with mist.

I came 18th with a net 74 and Jacqui was 24th with a net 75. Both of us managed to pick up prizes from the prize table. Thanks to Almerimar Golf for the prizes.

You can see the full results here.

Jacqui is heartbroken that she was in her buffer zone and has not gone up 0.1. So her sloped handicap at Almerimar did not go up a shot in time for the BSM competition next Saturday.

Congratulations to James Bailey who scored 43 points in the Friday golf when playing with his dad and John Fl yesterday. Not bad when you are only 11 years old.

Lets hope Jacqui and I do as well when we are playing in the leukemia charity competition at Almerimar tomorrow. It might be a bit of a challenge for us as we tee off at around 8:45am. Particularly if it is misty again tomorrow morning.

While Jacqui and I were enjoying the gazpacho yesterday there were a number of golfers taking part in the latest round of the Almerimar regularidad competition. There were some good scores with 40 points winning the lower category and a cracking 46 points winning the higher category. There will be a very large handicap cut for Manuel Cruz Lopez.

You can see the full results here on the Almerimar Flashcaddy site.

Optica Cervantes golf at Almerimar 2012

Jacqui spotted this poster on Facebook recently. We would love to take part in this competition as it is good value. Lots of gifts and prizes and this year the dinner is in the castle in Guardias Viejas. However at 60 euros a person we feel that we cannot afford to pay 120 euros to take part this year. We hope all of the participants enjoy the competition.

You can see the results from the competition here on the Flashcaddy site. Well done to the winners Pablo Villanueva Merino and Paula Pablos Velez who scored 65 in a pairs medalplay competition. Almerimar golf locals Francisco Garcia Martin and Augusto Martinez Sanchez came second with the same score but higher handicaps.

We got disqualified as we didn´t know it was pairs medal play this year and both of our couples had stableford blobs and didn´t putt out. We will know for next year that the format has changed from pairs stableford.

We will not be attending the prize giving ceremony tomorrow night. None of the 4 of Alan, Sharon, Jacqui and myself played very well.

The funniest thing that happened was a guy in another group a hole ahead of us on hole 14 played a bad shot and threw his club away about 20 metres ahead of him. It landed in a palm tree and he had to stand on his buggy and use a rake from a nearby bunker to reach up into the tree and rescue it. Serves him right.

Time for some drinks and tapas now. So a relaxing afternoon and no more articles to be published today.

Don´t forget you can now pick up your 2012/2013 membership fee and pick up your FGS membership cards in the Poniente Golf Discount shop in Almerimar.

We are just getting to the busy time of year here in Almerimar with loads of official golf competiions coming on at the weekends between now and late August 2012. Starting with the Virgen del Carmen this coming Sunday.
