tree down on golf course - 1 Feb 15

Further to John's story earlier. Here is a photo from my Facebook page of one of the trees that blew down on the golf course in the high winds on Saturday.

Windy Almerimar - 31 January 2015

As you can see from the photos above the very windy weather in Almerimar yesterday has caused quite a lot of damage as well as very big waves.

It was probably the windiest it has ever been in my time here. This after what so far has probably been my best winter here for weather since we arrived in 2004.

The good news is that it is back to sunshine and not much wind today for the FGS Sunday golf competition.

When I looked on Saturday the forecast for Sunday, yesterday and today was terrible. Lots of rain every day. As it turns out the golfers in Almerimar have been very lucky.

We managed to get around on Sunday with only a few spits and spots. Then yesterday Mel's golfers got around before the heavens opened. It poured down last night.

Now Marianne & Sune's Tuesday golfers appear to be getting round in sunshine with some cloud.

There is more rain forecast for tonight and then a few showers later in the week. Nevertheless it is still by far the best winter weather we have had in years.

So far we have had one of the best winters since we moved here around 10 years ago. Not much rain and less wind than in previous years.

However it looks like the next 2-3 days might bring us some rain. I guess the greens on the course will appreciate it more than the golfers.

Following the heavy rain on Tuesday the snow is now back on the mountains. If Jacqui and I remember we will take a few pictures of it at Friday golf today.

Wow, what a difference. Pouring rain and driving winds. So bad that Marianne's Tuesday golf today was cancelled.

Looks like winter has arrived in Almerimar. Time to get the jeans and trousers out from the back of the cupboard.

What wonderful weather for 1 November. Bright sunshine. I have just checked the temperature on the terrace of our apartment and it is 31 degrees in the shade. I am normally in jeans by now but I am still wearing my shorts. Perhaps my legs will eventually stop reminding Mr President of OOB posts.

What a change. It has been hot and sunny the last few days. All this morning it has been very misty and colder. At one point we could not see the golf course from our terrace. It is still quite misty and a lot cooler today.

After a busy weekend of Friday golf, internet outages and the Ryder Cup I was planning to catch up with some bits and pieces on the computer this afternoon.

After over a day of internet outage in our part of Almerimar we got our connection back this morning. Then came the storm.

There has now been a massive downpour with thunder and lightning. The electricity has been off, the internet is now bouncing on and off again. I am sure that most of the streets in town will be under water now.

Hopefully that will be the worst of the weather over now. I can even see tiny patches of blue sky around. So lets hope that the streets clear of water and not too many people have suffered from flooding.

It was a bit of a shock at FGS summer Tuesday golf yesterday. There were spots of rain for around 5 minutes or so. Also, there were a couple of short sharp heavy showers. The temperature is dropping as well. So it is just about goodbye to summer here in Almerimar.

I understand that England may be under water this bank holiday. It is not the same here.

The article here on the Ideal site say there is a weather warning that temperatures may reach 36 degrees this afternoon in our part of the province.

Beach temperatures in Andalucia

The article here on the Ideal site has details of a new online weather service with a focus on beach temperatures. In our area it provides information for the nature reserve beach, the levante beach and the poniente beach.

Summer is really with us now in Almerimar. Pretty hot and sticky during the day. The good news is that most days there is a breeze to cool you down a bit.

Really busy time of year for golf competitions. There is one every weekend until the end of August. Plus the Virgen of August competition on Friday 15 August. We might arrange for Friday golf to take place on the Classic course that day.

High 20s in the shade on the terrace and getting rather warm overnight now. The start of summer has been very late this year.

Misty golf - 30 May 2014

As you can see from the photos above the fret or haar was with us when playing Friday golf today in Almerimar.

An unusual event for this time of year. It lasted for around 10 minutes here but for longer closer to El Ejido. I guess the golf course will benefit from the unexpected extra watering.

Just checked the forecast for the next week and the overnight temperatures range between 17-20 degrees for Almerimar.

Recently I was told that the summer growing grass on the Almerimar course wake up from its winter slumber once the overnight temperatures reach 16 degrees regularly.

So it looks like we will have thick rough and lush bright green fairways here very soon now.

The summer is not far away now here in Almerimar. Today the Junta Local of Almerimar published the photo above on their Almerimar page on Facebook. Click on the image above to see the full version.

Not a great day for the weather today. It is dark with drizzle at the moment. No need for Jacqui to wear her sunglasses today to protect her eye.

We had a good day for the FGS Sunday golf competition yesterday. Not a cloud in the sky. However it was somewhat windy with the wind coming from the east. Not the preferred direction for the golfers as it makes the two dog legs on the front 9 difficult. Also, 6 out of 9 holes on the back 9 are against the wind.

The prize giving for the competition yesterday is being held at Marisqueria Franc at 7:30pm tonight. As it was a better ball pairs competition there are now no handicaps changes to be made (due to an FGS committee decision last year). The lead organiser, John Fl, is checking the cards himself rather than Jacqui and I. So, unusually, Jacqui and I do not who who the winners are. We will find out this evening.
