Almerimar

When we woke up this morning it was raining in Almerimar. The first we have seen apart from a few spits and spots at one Friday golf recently.

Summer really is now disappearing.

It was only around 26 degrees in the shade on our terrace this morning. So it looks like summer is nearly over. Not long now until I go back to wearing long trousers and jumpers.

As least you can now park a little easier in Mercadona now that the summer crowds are departing.

The yr.no forecast showed us having rain today. Although it has been a bit cloudy and muggy I have not noticed any rain yet.

I hope that the forecast for tomorrow is wrong as it is showing rain starting just as we are about to start our Friday golf and lasting all through the round. I guess we will have to decide whether we are playing or not when we turn up at the clubhouse tomorrow.

The article here on the Olive Press site says that Andalucia is having a cooler summer this year. It doesn't feel like that to me in Almerimar at the moment. It feels very hot and sticky at the moment.

Been busy all day and now having to get ready to go to the Virgen del Carmen celebration to watch Mr President and Jacqui pick up their prizes for coming second in the golf competition at the weekend.

It is sweltering here at the moment. So I am pleased that they are setting up the celebration on the terrace of the golf clubhouse. Hopefully there will be a cooling breeze.

As soon as Jules prepares to come out here the weather turns. It was really windy yesterday and is continuing to be so today. I am glad I decided not to play in the FGS summer Tuesday golf today.

I woke up this morning to see an overcast sky and the road outside damp from the overnight rain. Looking at the forecast for today there is 2.1mm of rain.

It is a bit of a shame as it is the last Tuesday of the winter golfing season for Marianne & Sune.

I hope that the weather improioves a bit for them today.

Looks like the wet winter means that we should be ok for water this summer. So the article here on the Typically Spanish site tells us.

"Spring is sprung, the grass is ris.
I wonders where the birdies is."

Springs is now sprung in Almerimar. We have had 2-3 days of warm sunny weather with not much brezze. So the long period of high winds and colder weather now seems to be over.

The grass isn´t quite ris yet in Almerimar. We still have dormant grass on the fairways but the first signs of it waking up are showing. So hopefully we will have a green course again in the next month or so.

The birdies are in the nature reserve according to our bird watching friend, John Wi. He was out in the reserve yesterday and a lot of the migrating birds have now arived. Again confirming that spring is here.

I woke up this morning and looked out of the window. I could not believe my eyes when I saw that the palm trees were not bent sideways pointing towards the nature reserve. We have a morning without wind. Yipppppeeeeeeeeee.

It looks like the worst of winter is over now in Almerimar. I can always tell when I am in the shower. Over the winter we have to have our water heater at maximum setting to get a hot shower. I was in the shower this morning and the water was hot enough for me to consider turning the boiler temperature down. A sure sign that things are warming up here.

If only we could get the wind to stop we would be having a great spring. At last the rain from February and early March has eased off but we seem to be having non-stop windy days. Great for the windsurfers who have a big competition here this weekend but not so good for the golfers.

Someone told me the other day that the windy weather here may be due to cold weather coming in from Russia and Scandinavia. Apparently this is forcing the jet stream further south which is bringing us the strong winds from the west. Not sure it this is true or not but it sounds feasible.

So says the article here on the Think Spain site.

From my point of view I feel it has certainly been the worst March weather in Almerimar since my first March here in 2005. When is has not been raining it has been windy. Hopefully things will improve soon.

It was breezy yesterday when Jacqui and I played with Lennart and Kristina. However today is somewhat worse. I am very pleased I didn´t play in Mel´s Monday golf today.

We have lovely sunshine but wow is it windy now.

It is now only the 7th day of the month. However, already, I think we have had the worst March weather since Jacqui and I moved out here in 2004. It is raining again today and on the days it has not rained in the last week it has been very windy. Or at least that is how it feels.

Luckily Marianne has given us some photos to scan for the Memorias de Almerimar page on Facebook. So that is giving me something to do this morning.

Jacqui has received a delivery of lake balls in the PGD shop this morning. She is busy bagging them and pricing them up. Most of our Swedish visitors are saying the water on the course is swallowing up balls so the shop is doing a good trade in golf balls.

Looking at the forecast it seems to be brighter and warmer after today. Although it will be a bit breezy from time to time. Maybe I will be able to sneak out onto the golf course sometime soon, if I can get a starting time.

For me the wind was really chilly here in Almerimar at times today. I ended up having to wear a wind jacket and a fleece over my polo shirt at golf today. Maybe Marianne isn´t as used to warm weather as myself as I see she says it was a lovely breeze in her Tuesday write-up.

The forecast is for more chilly windy weather tomorrow so we will all have to wrap up warm for the FGS boule competition.
